The Incredible Burt Wonderstone had been in development at New Line since 2006, when it purchased the spec by Chad Kultgen.  The budget for The Incredible Burt Wonderstone was $32 million, which New Line financed and parent company Warner Bros distributed their three movies a year output.  Warner Bros dated Wonderstone for March 15, where it bowed against The Call.  Tracking was pointing to an opening in the mid to low teens and WB booked it wide into 3,160 theaters.

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone received mixed to poor reviews and came in below expectations with $10,177,257 — placing #3 for the weekend led by the holdover Oz The Great and PowerfulThe Incredible Burt Wonderstone was another box office flop for New Line/Warner, which had just released the fiasco Jack The Giant Slayer two weeks earlier.  Audiences were not very kind to this Steve Carell and Jim Carrey comedy giving it a terrible C+ cinemascore.  The Incredible Burt Wonderstone sank 57.5% in its second frame to $4,321,388 and declined a steep 68.9% in its third weekend and closed with just $22,537,881.

WB dumped the film overseas in just a handful of markets, where it pulled in a small $4.8 million.  The worldwide cume was $27.4M and WB would see returned about $15M after theaters take their percentage of the gross, which would not cover P&A expenses or any of the budget.
