Proud American was financed by American Airlines, Coca-Cola, MasterCard and Walmart as an IMAX propaganda movie pushing corporate deregulation.  This shameless piece of hackwork portrays the greatness of the early days of Coca-Cola and Walmart — as well as vignettes of tolerance and other mishandled complicated issues in American life, all while sporting lots of product placement.

Proud American was self released through Slowhand Cinema and was booked into 750 theaters.  It was savaged by the handful of critics that bothered to sit through this and it pulled in a pitiful $96,076 with a $128 per screen average for the weekend.  Proud American set the record for the lowest grossing wide release opening ever — which is a funny enough record for a film that is a doctrine for free-market capitalism to the extreme.  Proud American was dropped from all but 6 theaters going into its second weekend and was yanked out of release after its second week with just $131,357.

Oddly enough, an American propaganda film never found a release overseas.  If Proud American made it onto the home video market, there is no sign of it anywhere online.
