The budget for George And The Dragon was $32 million and it was co-financed by Luxembourg based The Carousel Picture Company and the German tax shelter fund ApolloMedia.  The two companies had previously split the costs on trash cinema Fear Dot Com, Extreme Ops and The Musketeer.  The German based VFX company Das Werk also unwisely invested in this project and handled visual effects duties.  George And The Dragon was the first big scale, developed in-house production for Carousel and was directed by the co-founder of the company Tom Reeve.

MDP Worldwide handled sales, which kicked off at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival.  Production on the film was completed in mid 2002 and George And The Dragon never landed a US distributor.  Years later it was sold for probably pocket change to American World Pictures, which usually inks deals with the Syfy Channel.  It was retitled Dragon Sword and had the indignity of premiering as a Syfy Channel Original Movie in August 2006.

George And The Dragon had landed a major deal at Cannes in 2002 with distributor Filmax S.A. for a release in Spain, but like in every market it was dumped and cumed a mere $77,620.  The bulk of the overseas receipts came from Mexico, where it grossed $455,615 and it saw a fleeting theatrical release in a few markets with an offshore total of $557,910.
